Sprains, strains, and joint pain can result from injuries or other conditions. Our healthcare providers can quickly determine the cause of your pain and recommend treatment to return you to normal activity.
Symptoms you may experience include:
- Decreased movement in the joint
- Hearing or feeling a pop in the joint during an injury
The painful area will be thoroughly examined to determine the nature and extent of the injury. During the examination, the provider will look for swelling, painful points, and the motion of the joint. Some injuries or conditions may require referral to an orthopedic specialist for follow-up and additional treatment.
Treatment often consists of rest, elevation of the injured or painful area, anti-inflammatory medication, and the application of ice. Some conditions may require further evaluation with x-rays or MRI scans. Recovery time from sprains and strains will depend on the severity of the injury. Minor injuries will resolve quickly, but more extensive sprains will take longer to improve completely.
